Touching Interactive Listening - „Whispering Table“ beats 299 projects from all over Europe

Winners of EUROPRIX Multimedia Award 2010 announced

The 21st century Minesweeper Game, the multi-medial culinary guide or the question of the media's influence on society – this is the multitude of topics covered by the 23 nominated projects of the EUROPRIX Multimedia Award. From November 11th to 13th, the most creative and innovative heads in the European multimedia scene met in the
Austrian city of Graz for the EUROPRIX MULTIMEDIA FESTIVAL 2010. During these events the winners of the EU-wide award, which attracted 299 teams to submit their project, were announced.

This year, German teams were most successful. Four out of the eight category winners are based in Germany, although the team members sometimes hail from different countries. The German project “Whispering Table” did not only receive the Award as best Interactive Installation, but was also awarded as the Overall Winner of the EUROPRIX.

Sense food with your ears

On the first sight, the installation produced by “TheGreenEyl”, looks rather simple: White
dishes laid out on a round table. But if listening rather than watching, one can sense a mere sound coming from each of the plates, bowls and vases. When getting closer one can hear that the sounds are stories, told by first-person narrators. The stories deal with food and table manners of different countries. Their fascination is due to the combination of quality research and personal interviews they are based on. What exactly is told does not only depend on which bowl or plate one takes, but also where it is positioned on the table and in relation to the others dishes.

To achieve this, sophisticated technology is needed, that combines data processers, sensors and speakers on smallest space. However, the visitor of the installation is not bothered with this technical complexity. He or she can just learn about the food manners of different cultures in a playful, entertaining way.

The professional facilitation of this highly innovative idea is the reason why the installation, commissioned by the Stiftung Jüdisches Museum Berlin (Foundation of the Jewish Museum Berlin) as an exhibition on food and religion, was thus awarded as the Overall Winner of the EUROPRIX.

Europe's premier Multimedia Awards extends its deadline to July 30th!

Europe's premier Multimedia Awards for young creators of Digital Media has extended its deadline for entries until July 30th and are offering free registration for new EUROPRIX entries, to give the Continents' young digital media producers even more of a chance to gain the recognition and success they deserve.

The EUROPRIX Multimedia Awards is an annual awards ceremony and festival held in Graz, Austria that showcases exciting new ideas on how to use technology and intriguing design concepts that distinguish Europe's young professionals from the rest in the field of multimedia, limited not by existing markets but by creating new ones, using their innovative skills and talents to help design the creative industries of the future.

The EUROPRIX Multimedia Awards 2010 call for entries was launched at MIPTV in Cannes this April and turned heads by encouraging revelers at the world's largest content and entertainment market to address the financial crisis with creativity and innovation and directed people to EUROPRIX TV, the social broadcasting platform that showcases the groundbreaking work of past EUROPRIX entrants from the past decade.

The digital media industry is increasingly competitive but with industry eyes on this year's EUROPRIX entrants combined with the easily-available never seen before footage from past winners on EUROPRIX TV, means there has never been a better time to submit a digital media project to the awards. All nominees receive an all-expenses paid trip to the EUROPRIX Multimedia Festival in Graz, Austria in November 2010 to present their project, where serious networking opportunities await.

Adam Montandon, President of the EUROPRIX Multimedia Awards says: "Launching the 2010 call for entries and EUROPRIX TV at MipTV in Cannes made a lot of people realize that they need to keep their eyes on these young up-and-coming media producers, before they become their young up-and-coming competitors! Young people are creating more and more content, and traditional media outlets just can't keep up as there's so much junk out there. EUROPRIX TV and the EUROPRIX Multimedia awards showcase only the best examples of creativity in Europe. So if you want to be on that level, take a look at some of the successful previous projects and submit your entry now. You've got until July 30th!"
