müSwords & Soldiers

"Swords & Soldiers" is a 2D side-scrolling real-time strategy game for the Nintendo Wii and a wonderful and fresh mix of Real Time Strategy gameplay, with the graphical presentation of a traditional side-scrolling arcade game. In each level, two armies fight for victory by building up their numbers, upgrading their castles, gathering gold and casting spells. The game can be played either in single-player or split-screen multiplayer mode, and features three different factions: the strong Vikings, the devious Aztecs and the cunning Chinese. Each faction possesses a diversity of qualities, skills and tactics. A series of challenging mini-games can be unlocked as players progress through their chosen campaign. Comical graphical style and strategic depth are inherent to this game, which can be downloaded from the Wii shop.

mü

Based on fairytales, "mü" is an interactive multimedia device, targeted at 5-6 year old French kindergarten children. Through individualised or group activities, this multi-touch interface is designed to facilitate the development of social behaviour, autonomy and imagination by sensitising children to music, sound and creativity. Tangible objects representing fairytale characters are placed on a square tabletop screen, where they can be manipulated to interact in creative or game-style activities. A record of the child's work is subsequently stored in their own personal electronic folder, which can be uploaded onto the "mü" website via WI-FI for parental perusal. Under the watchful and encouraging eye of the teacher, "mü" is guaranteed to make learning creative and fun!

OuterspaceOuterspace

Outerspace is a reactive robotic creature that explores the surrounding space by responding to light, motion and human contact. Using various aspects of industrial design, physical computing and artificial intelligence, the robot's body consists of three limbs made from fibreglass pipes which are controlled by wires and pulleys. The head, the upper limb, contains five photo sensors which are used as eyes to detect brightness and simple motion recognition. All limbs have sensors which react to human body contact. Connected via controllers to a PC, special JAVA software processes all the calculations. Inspired by insect antennae that are able to make flexible movements in order to explore the environment, this robot feeds on curiosity and interaction. People can touch or play with it and watch its animal-like behaviour.

last.FM

Last.FM is an internet radio station unlike most others. It allows listeners to explore the vast amount of songs on the Last.FM server, to build their own listening profiles and to exchange these profiles with other listeners. In this respect, the user adopts the traditional role of the DJ. After repeated use, the system builds a listening profile that increasingly reflects the user’s preferences. The sum of all profiles is visualized in the Map of Music, a presentation of musical connections and genres determined only by the collaborative effort of the Last.FM users.

Anne Frank - A house with a story

The Anne Frank House is the house on Prinsengracht in Amsterdam where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary “The Annex” during Second World War. After the war the entire Building – Anne’s hiding place – was turned into a museum. This CD-ROM, designed for both adults and young people, gives a clear picture of Anne Frank herself, her family, the house, the Second World War, the hiding from the occupying forces and the holocaust.
The house on the CD-ROM has been laid out just as it was during the time when Anne was hiding there. By moving the mouse we can view all around and move through the building. We can request supplementary information on the buildings and on the objects we encounter.
As the content is presented either 2- dimensionally or 3-dimensionally, users have the impression that they themselves are standing in the square. Similar kind of experience could not be achieved through any other media – the clever usage of interaction indeed offers added value to the user.

EUROPRIX Winner 1999

Forestia Junior

"Forestia Junior" offers children, from the age of four to seven, the possibility of exploring and discovering the different realms of forests. The central visual metaphor is a forest which is highly visualised by the use of three-dimensional animations of exceptional quality. Using a relatively intuitive interface, the child can navigate through the forest at ground level, in the treetops, underground, and in a special clearing in the very centre of the forest. Throughout the whole experience children meet many different animated characters who introduce them to educational games aimed at increasing their awareness of the environment and nature. The forest and the animations are conceived entirely in three dimensions. Due to its high educational value and humorous approach, "Forestia Junior" succeeds in introducing children to the real forest and environmental problems.

In fact, one of the product's strengths is its ability not only to increase the awareness of environmental issues but also to teach children basic literacy skills and help them with hand and eye co-ordination.

EUROPRIX Winner 1998

“Ceremony of Innocence” is a mysterious love story, told through an interactive correspondence of 70 postcards and letters, based upon the “Griffin and Sabine” trilogy by Nick Bantock. Internationally renowned actors and actresses such as Paul McGann, Isabella Rossellini and Ben Kingsley guide the user through the narrative. The CD-ROM enables the user to follow the narrative closely or to take a step back and experience locations that were particularly stimulating and moving. The programme is controlled with the mouse cursor, which will behave in many different ways depending on the given situation. At times, it will disappear completely and leave the user in control of an object or character.

The use of a film-like screen and sound design intensify the experience of “Ceremony of Innocence” and draw the user deep into its story
